True crime has been an interest of mine for decades. Reading and watching stories about these deviant human behaviors ultimately led me to earn degrees in Psychology. It was also one of the reasons I chose to work as a counselor & advocate in Domestic Violence shelters, serving women and children in LA. While I’m no longer working in that field, it is still very important to me personally.

A lot of true crime cases are a direct result of toxic, abusive relationships, whether that’s domestic violence, sexual abuse, or child abuse. 

Often in true crime, many of these cases leave us feeling helpless or like we should be doing something, instead of just watching them play out and feeling bad about them. Usually, that’s because we realize they could have happened in our own lives. Sometimes that happens subconsciously. That’s where that feeling of powerlessness comes from.

But, we don’t have to feel that way. That’s why this is a listener focused community, where we can not only learn about true crime, but also explore the things WE CAN DO to prevent it, at least in our families and communities.

I truly believe we can learn effective techniques to reduce some of these stories, by helping those in our own circle of family and friends. So, we’ll explore practical ways we can do that, for those we care about. Taking action now, can help them avoid becoming another true crime headline, and lower our own risk.
